The story I’m about to tell you begins on a beautiful sunny, but cold morning (03.12.2007) just before Mikulás (the Hungarian Santa’s day), when I set out for my usual stroll. Everything started out fine, but I never expected this to happen:
I was leaping up and down over the frozen leaves on the hill, when I slipped and fell straight in front of a car, which was driving by and it couldn’t stop in time. I was terrified so I shivered all over like the leaves of a tree in the breeze. I couldn’t move a muscle. I saw the car’s driver was just as scared as I was. He just stared at me for minutes, I just lay there motionless, so he decided to take me to a doctor and have me examined.

When I arrived at the clinic, I still didn’t move, just lay there a cuddled up.

I was waiting for the next move and the treatment, petrified with fear. Meanwhile they were just looking at me as if they had never seen a deer before.

Unfortunately I had to stay the night to make sure I was all well save being terrified. In the morning the Doc lead me into the garden. I felt like a dog with that dog chain and leash around my neck. But I’m a DEER for Heaven’s sake!

Good looking, aren’t I?
He liked me too, that’s why he kept taking all these pictures.

He tied me up before we got on our way, because I had shown him before, what my hooves can do if there’s something I don’t like. Here I am laying all tied up, ready to go!

This is the stretcher next to me. I can’t walk like this you know!

To the left is the Doc’s chief assistant Euki!
He was constantly snooping around, sniffing me and yelping.

Some last minute preparations before setting off.

Can we finally get going please?!

I wonder where they’re taking me now. Hope it will be a familiar sight!

At last we’re on our way!

We’re back where it all started, on Jánoshegyi street.

Off come the ropes.

Don’t need a collar either, I’m no dog!

Can I really go? I don’t believe it.

Shall I run? I need a little more encouragement!

One last glance to say good bye!

I thought I’d go that way… its not so steep. Don’t want any more mishaps.

Will you ever see me again?
So that’s it. I melted into the autumn colors of the forest. I never forgot this extraordinary adventure. I’m sure I’ll be much more careful from now on. Thank you humans for all your help! ![]()
